Lafe F A group of business executives and their wives are sent to a retreat, aptly called "Mystique", which turns into a nightmare. It is ruled by a dominating lady (Yvette Mimieux) and her partner (John Carsidine), and a troop of strongmen. The executives are imprisoned, abused, humiliated, starved, sleep-deprived, over-exercised -- but the scary part is... it helps them overcome their fears and empowers them to do anything. Or does it? One man (Christopher Allport) and his wife (Cindy Pickett) attempt to break free of the compound, but must also go up against their converted co-workers. I really was fascinated by this movie; it depicted a frighteningly real cult. I liked Yvette's dominating abuse of the men, which made it campy. This movie has shocking scenes, like when a fat man is locked in a cage naked, and another is made to carry his own cross and then buried alive. It's disturbing but interesting. It sort of has a low budget made-for-TV feel. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/24/07 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
