Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Clair de Femme is one of those movies that provides a strange two-level- viewing experience: It moves along for two hours looking exactly like a great idea for a movie, but it never quite becomes the movie. Rated: 2/4 Nov 12, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Gerry W This film has lingered in my memory as a movie that left a strong, haunting, and powerful impression in me for decades, since I first saw it in an art house theatre in 1979, so I was stunned to see it had only one negative Roger Ebert review posted here at Rotten Tomatoes now in looking it up here in 2025, as I thought I remembered it getting a very positive critical and audience response when it opened. I remember being mesmerized and moved by Yves Montand's and Romy Schneider's (her name is spelled wrong here at RT, by the way) performances, and the memory of them and the film only grew in stature when I happened to run into Mr. Montand in Paris on a vacation. He was incredibly warm, kind, and welcoming when I greeted him while he was walking his dog and told him how much I enjoyed this film and his body of film work overall.
