Audience Member It baffles me that nobody sees this documentary for what is really is - an epic humble brag of a film produced by a bunch of rich ladies who are using the projects across the street from their kid's school to highlight the class divide - or more precisely - remind themselves how well they have done in life by comparison. It's disgusting. What struck me throughout was the kids from the projects seemed to be thinking "what's the big deal again?". I know it's hard to believe, but the only thing that poor people envy rich people for is money. Most know they are happier and more at ease. They just lack funds. Trust me, this is coming from a rich guy. They don't need a Karen to use them as props for her film that she likely created just to prove to her husband that she isn't totally useless and doesn't just sit around all day. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Totally engaging doc about Chelsea, NYC, and particularly about the Avenue School for wealthy students and the housing projects across the street from it. In moments, you're seduced by the kids on both sides of the divides and are rooting for them. It's a great study of money and the role it plays in the lives of the generation. Both sides struggle to understand what it means to have and have not and what they could or should do about it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Nevermind the infuriating subject matter of this excellent documentary, just watch this documentary for its 8-year old star Rosa. Should there be an award for best real live actress in a doc, she has my vote 10 times over. I don't remember the last time I saw such an incredibly adorable human being on screen. Highly recommended. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member The filmmaker misses the real point by dragging the poor kids into the castles across the street. Instead, the missed opportunity was dragging the rich kids into the projects. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Brian Lowry CNN.com [Class Divide] bores into income disparity in an area where an elite private school and multi-million-dollar high-rise condominiums have gone up adjacent to poverty-stricken public-housing projects. Dec 28, 2016 Full Review Godfrey Cheshire RogerEbert.com To the filmmakers' credit, they seem to approach their subjects with no simplistic agenda but a genuine desire to engage and understand everyone they meet. Rated: 3.5/4 Apr 13, 2016 Full Review Daniel M. Gold New York Times What "Class Divide" does exceptionally well is capture the sense of change at warp speed. In their bones, the public-housing kids know that it's only a matter of time before they're forced to leave. Apr 13, 2016 Full Review Gabrielle Bondi The Young Folks Class Divide shines an important light on our country's gentrification problem, but also pushes forward the necessity of integration in order to accomplish a better, more diverse and fairer future. Oct 4, 2016 Full Review Roger Catlin rogercatlin.com Marc Levin talks to people on both sides [the rich and the poor] in Class Divide and gets his most poignant responses from children. Oct 4, 2016 Full Review Louis Proyect rec.arts.movies.reviews A brilliant take onthe hypergentrification that made funky old Chelsea the hq of buildings that now have individual swimming pools in apartments like a Scrooge McDuck comic book from the 50s.
