Dave S Class of '44 is proof that not all movies require a sequel. Summer of '42 was an insightful and poignant film that followed three teenage boys over the course of a summer on Nantucket Island, wrapping everything up neatly before the credits rolled. Other than a cash grab, it's hard to explain why Class of '44 exists, as a second coming-of-age story about the same three characters seems more than a little excessive. To make matters worse, it isn't even very good as a standalone movie – the dialogue is wooden and consistently embarrassing, the acting is uniformly bad (with the possible exception of Gary Grimes as Hermie), and the story is nothing more than episodic, where entire scenes could be cut or placed elsewhere without it impacting the story. Stick with the original and ignore this one. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Steve D Ok but not as good as the first.
