      Critics Consensus

Challenging and rewarding in equal measure, Climax captures writer-director Gaspar Noé working near his technically brilliant and visually distinctive peak.

Ben Sachs Chicago Reader Regardless the various attempts at shock value (with scenes involving self-mutilation and abortion) seem downright desperate. Mar 16, 2020 Full Review Ben Croll TheWrap Just like Possession, this tale of stylized hysteria is an absolute scream. Feb 12, 2020 Full Review Michael Koresky Film Comment Magazine In the latest goofy provocation from a director who never saw a space-dank dungeon or sunny bedroom-upon which he couldn't unleash a swirly-twirly camera, Noé puts a pansexual, multicultural dance troupe through its paces before sending them to hell. Mar 21, 2019 Full Review D.M. Palmer Vague Visages The film documents the dissipation of idealism and the gradual slide into self-annihilation... Nov 9, 2023 Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast Less a film and more an experience (an anxiety-inducing one, at that), Climax is a fascinating and stressful watch. Rated: 4/5 Mar 8, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Noe invites that curiosity with every film, like a giggling schoolboy who has set a whoopie cushion on a chair and can barely contain his laughter as someone approaches to sit. Georgan G This is a wild French movie that requires subtitles, but is blatantly sexual - with no translation needed. 24 dancers, with many so androgynous it keeps you guessing. Great dancing. However, LSD does not cause insanity, etc. so the premise is way off base. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/08/24 Full Review chitown2bayarea Hmmm how to make an artsy movie?? I know! Let's talk for half the movie, scream and act stupid for the second half, then flip the camera upside down for the last 20 minutes! Oh, and don't forget to kick a pregnant girl in the stomach!! VOILA!! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review Lucy F Fantastic. One of my top ten favourite films. Stylish, jarring, intense until the very last second of the film. Very skilled actors weaving a harrowing and high energy tale. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review carter b Terrifying but a blast Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Michael C Incredible movie and acting!!! Need more movies like this!!!
