Critics Consensus

While Clock may strain some viewers' suspension of disbelief, it's a mostly effective attempt to view reproductive pressures through a chilling horror lens.

Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Agron throws herself fully into the role and the first 45 minutes of Jacknow’s disturbing commentary works wonders, but it strays and winds up losing its punch near its end. Rated: 2.5/4 May 17, 2023 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times Clock leans too heavily on too-obvious visual metaphors, but it’s still a vivid and visceral explication of one woman’s fears. Apr 28, 2023 Full Review Elisabeth Vincentelli New York Times “Clock” is a psychological thriller, or perhaps even a satire, in horror clothing, tantalizing us with thought-provoking ideas, only to abandon them... Apr 27, 2023 Full Review Ankit Ojha Cinema Elite [Alexis Jacknow] makes sure to weave into the narrative the innate fear and anxiety women could have, either to conform to social comfort or in anticipation of their concerns falling on deaf ears. Rated: 3/5 Jul 9, 2024 Full Review Murjani Rawls Draftkings Nation 'Clock' gets to the root of the patriarchal standards women have to operate within with a sometimes grim filter. Rated: 3/5 Feb 15, 2024 Full Review Tina Kakadelis Beyond the Cinerama Dome As soon as one reads the synopsis, it’s clear what they’re getting themselves into. Sure, it’s been done before, but not like this and not with this sense of urgency. Jul 24, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Jens B Given the mediocre reviews, I was pleasantly surprised: "Clock" is in every way the better version of "American Horror Story" Season 12, telling a similar story with the same themes in just 90 minutes (and without Kim Kardashian). Perhaps a woman can relate to the complexities of motherhood better than Ryan Murphy. The plot is very predictable if you're even slightly familiar with the horror genre, but that doesn't matter. Dianna Agron and Melora Hardin are excellent, and Alexis Jacknow directs her script solidly. The few jump scares scattered throughout were unnecessary and lame, but they don't spoil the atmosphere. The fact that "Clock" feels fresh despite the aforementioned weaknesses shows that there are still too few films (not just in the horror genre) told from a female perspective. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/05/25 Full Review Leah B It's smart and visceral. Visually appealing and disturbing. It's subtle one moment and hyperbolically surreal, but just long enough for you to doubt, with the protagonist, that you didn't see what you have just seen. There are layers of complexity that you peel back delightfully. Horror should be depth and the fathoming the unfathomable, daring to go one inch further. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it 🫠 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/23/25 Full Review FRANS G This is a very interesting horror/thriller dealing with motherhood and female "biological clocks". It is a well-acted and directed movie that has some interesting ideas and really creepy scenes. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/13/25 Full Review Riccardo g Scena finale da brividi!!!! «Alla fine, il tempo ha smesso di correre. Nessun ticchettio, nessuna voce che urla “è ora”, nessuna mano che stringe. Solo il silenzio del mare. Le manette non ci sono più. Forse non ci sono mai state. Forse erano solo il riflesso delle catene che portavo dentro. Ora il peso è sparito. Non sono più figlia, né paziente, né colpevole. Sono solo. E lì, accanto a me, una creatura lenta, fragile… libera. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/11/25 Full Review Nitsan F First half is UNBELIEVABLY boring and added very little to the movie. Mostly long slow conversations that don't matter or the character doing things in silence. Driving etc. Second half is horror but more nonsensical. Like lots of flashing images, horror noises and insanity of the character. And the overall story is just boring. Nothing was even remotely interesting or enjoyable about this. Filmed in a very bland artsy style that makes the movie that much more drab and dull. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/25 Full Review Aundrea E It's extremely annoying nonsense. It's just ridiculous. There's not much to say other than that. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/21/24 Full Review Read all reviews
