      Critics Consensus

Disturbing and thought-provoking, A Clockwork Orange is a cold, dystopian nightmare with a very dark sense of humor.

Ariel V One of my favorite Kubrick films. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/02/24 Full Review Subtle S Masterpiece would be a cliché... but very few films are as impecable as this film... maybe 2001 which another film by Kubrick. Kubrick has a very unique style of directing his actors and of course he has the most sublime eye for symetric shots and zoom outs... the costume design could have been better... but at the end, it fits with their weird language and their world... too many memorable scenes to count ... it's just a hilarious masterful intimidating and imposing film... cinema as art in it's highest form... definitely not for everyone... a lot of people don't appreciate Kubrick's humor or extreme realism... but for those that can take it... it's a must watch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review Christopher J wtf did i just watch???? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/24/24 Full Review Dhanu K An exceptional cinematic piece of art that is both disturbing and thought-provoking. The exploration of the conflict between societal control and individual freedom is so powerful, and Malcolm McDowell has delivered his career-best performance. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/26/24 Full Review D F not entertaining, and weird Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/18/24 Full Review Barney C I understood a whopping 60% of everything that was happening, but somehow the movie still felt balanced and well directed even with my confusion. Would recommend Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Pauline Kael New Yorker I can’t accept that Kubrick is merely reflecting this post-assassinations, post-Manson mood; I think he’s catering to it. I think he wants to dig it. Sep 12, 2023 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review A stone-cold classic, no getting around the fact... Sep 21, 2021 Full Review Charles Champlin Los Angeles Times I'm afraid I found A Clockwork Orange brilliant but disappointing, its moments of power offset by an overwrought stridency and its message overbalanced by the medium. Dec 21, 2020 Full Review Erick Estrada Cinegarage An exploration of the power psychological games can have on us. [Full review in Spanish] Apr 5, 2023 Full Review Dilys Powell Sunday Times (UK) The cast is all you could hope for, and Kubrick handles his medium with a confidence almost insolent. For the rest, he has given us the most audacious of horror films. And the most inhuman. Aug 8, 2022 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …a sensational story of youth both revolting and betrayed… Rated: 5/5 Jul 11, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
