Mark Kermode Observer (UK) For anyone wishing to tickle the tummy-buns of a Double Bacon Cheespider, there's a menagerie of colourful mutants to distract your attention from the absence of anything more substantial. Rated: 3/5 Oct 28, 2013 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times The original Cloudy didn't have the warmth of Despicable Me or the snark of Shrek. But it did have more humour than this new film. Rated: 3/5 Oct 25, 2013 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film As an animated film, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 will bring lots of laughs for kids. They hardly wrote this with parents or adults in mind but it still works in many ways. Rated: B Aug 15, 2024 Full Review Scott Nye Battleship Pretension Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn (working from a script by John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein, and Erica Rivinoja) have expanded on it nicely, crafting a film that feels like the natural successor to the original without simply rehashing its story. Jay W The first "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" was a surprisingly good time. It was clever, funny, and tightly written. This entry is by no means one of the worst animated sequels, especially given the terrible track record of Disney Sequels, but it is clearly a step down from the original. This film is one of the most generic animated kids' movies of all time. The crew of characters go to an island. The main protagonist is acting like a jerk because (insert whatever the kids' lesson is supposed to be). The group then argue and split up. The protagonist realizes the error of his ways and apologizes. Throw in some comedic relief sidekicks, slapstick and pop songs and you have yourself a movie. To the film's credit, through so many of those tired plot points, they throw in some fun jokes to the mix. It doesn't change the story, but it is still amusing. Likewise, the little kids I watched it with really enjoyed the film. It took them two viewings to sit through it all, but they gave it high praise. I also have a higher tolerance for food puns than most. This is also a necessary "turn off your brain" type of movie. The concept is outlandish enough, but you also have to ignore the horrifying implications of the island full of sentient food. It is like Jurassic Park or Frankenstein, if the lesson was "it's a good thing that you did that. Not the most well-rounded animated film, but it is like junk food in movie form. Fine in moderation, but don't make a meal out of it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Korra N I don't think it's as great as the first film, but this sequel is still wild, zany and wonderfully goofy in all the best ways that always leaves me laughing out loud. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/04/24 Full Review Daniel G I actually really liked this movie as much as the first one. It had it's great moments, a nice message, and a really creative premise. But though I really liked this sequel, some of the writing felt a bit off and awkward. Though disregarding that, I still really liked it though and would recommend it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/02/24 Full Review Samuel P I guess it was alright, but thank goodness there's no third. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/27/24 Full Review Leovanni E Not As Good As The First One But Still A Worthy Sequel Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/13/24 Full Review Pillow R Cloudy 2 has emotional moments, lots of good jokes and awesome visuals. A very enjoyable sequel Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/11/24 Full Review Read all reviews
