Critics Consensus

Formally familiar but a brilliant match for its lead, Colette is a thoroughly entertaining biopic and an overdue testament to Keira Knightley's underrated gifts.

Andrea Gronvall Chicago Reader The movie's treatment of her same-sex affairs may be as tasteful as the set design, but the film is an absorbing introduction to a trailblazing artist. Mar 3, 2020 Full Review Cathy Brennan Time Out Keira Knightley is magnetic in a Paris-set period drama with a dollop of queer feminist energy. Yellowfur D What else can I say, my favorite actress played a powerful bisexual writer, she won my heart from the kiss. And I love her dressing style. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/13/23 Full Review Mark P This movie was remarkable and enjoyable. However, a scene in the film takes place in 1904. The piano player is playing Golliwogg's Cakewalk, composed by Debussy for his daughter sometime between 1906 and 1908. It's always fun to catch a blooper. Besides that, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The acting by Keira Knightley was sensational. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/14/23 Full Review Jason R An interesting story, but not a great film. https://uberscaryblog.blogspot.com/2022/12/its-hand-that-holds-pen-that-writes.html Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/23/23 Full Review Jennifer K Wonderful period piece, with the pace of a modern movie. Stunning performance by Kiera Knightly and Dominic West. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review steve d Big Eyes for writers. a fascinating film, well told. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Joe S This 2018 film is gorgeously photographed and directed, and perfectly acted by Keira Knightley and others. It isn't for everyone, but then neither was the real Colette. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/09/22 Full Review Read all reviews
