Birithivy Y Colin Jost & Michael Che Present: New York After Dark - 5/10. Woof. It seems like this was a contractually obligated thing that Jost and Che had to do for NBC/Peacock. Or, this was a favour they did for them, since their segments on SNL might be the only consistently good segment on SNL. This standup showcase has some standups which are just passably okay. The jokes, the setup for the jokes, and the delivery is so familiar and so standard that I’m shocked. Jost and Che have great comedic timing and are really funny, so I’m shocked that they didn’t have the foresight for trying to get better material from the comedians. For a Live special, this should’ve been a lot better. I feel like if you go to your local comedy club, you can probably find better material and standups. Again, this was just okay, but should’ve been a little bit better. Shockingly average! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/27/24 Full Review Rusty D Wow that was weak... Material was unoriginal... No punch lines... Tried to patch weak humour with profanity, weak profanity at that lol. 🚮 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/25/24 Full Review dan m An extremely unoriginal (did we really need another show with a bunch of unknown stand-up comedians??) unfunny hour of male anatomy sex jokes, Jost screaming into the mic, and Che using the F word. Love them on SNL, and had hoped I'd be watching an opportunity for them to expand upon their chemistry and humor, but this was really just a waste of time and talent. Boo. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/15/24 Full Review Audience Member Well...the comedy showcase on live television was an *ambitious* attempt to capture the anarchic spirit of New York's diverse humor, but after the first act, it fell short in its execution. While each comedian brought moments of genuine hilarity, the overall show felt disjointed and overproduced,.. a wakeup call that we ain't the SNL audience.. The transitions were clunky, and the energy was uneven, making the show feel more like a collection of mismatched vignettes than a cohesive celebration of comedy. Despite its flaws, there were glimpses of brilliance but...that went dim Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/14/24 Full Review Pang P Well, I NOW have a rotten tomatoes account just so I can save other souls from this unfunny waste of time. I was so looking forward to watching it too being such a fan of both colin & michael! My husband and I watched 8 minutes and within the first 2 minutes noticed how Colin's activity trying to make himself 3 inches shorter to look like some turtle during mating season. Could hardly focus on his words!! This is STAND UP. Stand up straight man!!!! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/14/24 Full Review Aaron S Really funny comedians but execution obviously needs some work. The audience was clearly an issue and it felt like there were different expectations on what the event would be. In terms of content, it was hysterical and entertaining. I felt bad for the comedians because the audience didn't give them the response they deserved. I hope the final product doesn't discourage Michael or Colin from trying this again.
