Sham psychic Elliot Blake (Anthony Andrews) and his colleague, magician Max Dyson (Anthony Zerbe), have plotted to swindle the government into offering a lucrative contract for Blake's supposed ESP abilities. After the scam is successful, however, Blake gets Dyson out of the way by killing him in the magician's own stage guillotine. It's up to quirky LAPD homicide detective Columbo (Peter Falk) to catch Blake before the government puts him out of reach from the law.
