Critics Consensus

Compartment No. 6 can get a little stuffy within its narrative confines, but this well-acted, subtly told love story rewards the viewer's patience.

David Stratton The Australian Haarla and Borisov are excellent as the protagonists of this strangely appealing love story. Rated: 4/5 Jul 12, 2022 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald Very little happens between these two unhappy souls. And then, as the end nears, I found myself hoping it would keep going. Go figure. It takes quite some skill to be that crafty. Rated: 4/5 Jun 30, 2022 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times Haarla and Borisov demonstrate impeccable timing and expertly tiny movements as they warm up to one another. Its something like love but without either sex or romance. And its a joy to behold. Rated: 4/5 Apr 15, 2022 Full Review Daniel Allen Loud and Clear Reviews Juho Kuosmanen’s tremendous Compartment No. 6 goes on a journey of discovery, companionship and petroglyphs, with a wonderful performance by Seidi Haarla. Rated: 4/5 Jul 25, 2024 Full Review Sarah Vincent Sarah G Vincent Views I do not need the “Before” trilogy. I need the “Compartment Number 6” trilogy. The lack of romance, picture perfect movie stars in beautiful clothes and eloquent characters was a refreshing approach. People being people and having childlike fun Jun 9, 2024 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz Finnish film-maker Juho Kuosmanen has crafted a tense, compelling drama which offers plenty of narrative twists and turns. jr l an intimate, wonderfully acted and photographed film as 2 characters, each on their own paths, who re-examine themselves, when thrown together w/ someone from a completely different world.! WONDERFUL Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/22 Full Review Fong Kok Hoong F Shot and negatives smuggled at the border of Russia and Finland, this Finnish submission for the Best International Feature Film and Golden Globe nominee of the same category warms hearts with an unlikely friendship story of a student on a road trip to visit Kanozero Petroglyphs and a boorish miner as they share the titular train cabin en route a passage in winter from Moscow to Murmansk. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/05/24 Full Review Andrew H H I absolutely love this. Flawless ❤️ Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/22/23 Full Review Jason R Surprisingly enjoyable https://uberscaryblog.blogspot.com/2022/12/irina-is-always-talking-about.html Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/13/23 Full Review dave d Compartment No. 6 takes its sweet time, but the final few scenes make it all worth it. There will most certainly be things that don't make sense, but the overarching narrative is one that will lead people to happiness and reflection on the best things in life that may or may not be with them today. Juho Kuosmanen tonally dances a high wire act in this Finnish and Russian co-production. The cinematography when the film is set off the train is pretty wondrous. At the end of the day it's a coming of age story of our lead, Seidi Haarla as Laura who meets up with a crude, but endearing Yuri Borisov as Lyokha. They have a chemistry, but Haara is a revelation. The leads are layered and well defined. A multi-day train voyage leaves the viewers with tons of questions, but enjoy the journey as it's usually better than the destination! Final Score: 8/10 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review david f This is an adult drama - a slow, steady movie about two people relating to each other on a long train journey through Russia. Very art house. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
