Audience Member This is a film every medical, legal, and social service professional needs to see-and everyone else should too. Though the subjects share a specific diagnosis, their experiences reflect a broader, systemic failure that impacts patients with any complicated or rare disease. Too often, patients are dismissed not because their suffering isn’t real, but because medicine hasn’t caught up. It might be due to stigma, bias, or gaps in knowledge, compassion, or technology. “Patient abandonment” doesn’t begin to describe it. Children died and continue to die. Others live with very real physical and psychological damage that impairs every aspect of their lives. If these practices were described as happening in the 1950’s, we’d call them barbaric: physical and psychological torture, children confined to psychiatric wards, and families torn apart despite solid evidence of real diagnoses. Yet this is happening now, and more often than one documentary could ever capture. The filmmaker’s seven-year effort resulted in deeply intimate, courageous storytelling that gives voice to those silenced and even killed by the very systems meant to help them. The film is heartbreaking, enraging, and somehow, profoundly hopeful. Watch it when you have time to sit with your thoughts, and a box of tissues. Then share it. It’s raw, powerful, and might help prevent others from enduring the same. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/07/25 Full Review Read all reviews
