Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) The film serves as a defense of beauty in the face of moralism, a theme that can never go stale. Rated: 3.5/5 Mar 13, 2009 Full Review Edward Porter The Times (UK) Fisher is a likeable star with a knack for slapstick. Rated: 3/5 Feb 27, 2009 Full Review Anna Smith Empire Magazine It's hardly suspenseful stuff, but the sassy New-York-shopper angle should keep Sex And The City fans happy without patronising them quite so cynically. Rated: 3/5 Feb 20, 2009 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Maybe the movie is a cautionary tale intended to show how we don’t need to spend to be happy. Maybe, but I doubt it, since several scenes describe the ecstasy of shopping and the allure of name brands. Rated: 2/4 Dec 6, 2023 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com this simple rom-com actually delivers the goods in terms of a positive message for young people that acknowledges the sugar-rush of comfort-shopping Rated: 3/5 Mar 1, 2022 Full Review Jason Adams My New Plaid Pants This one's smarter than your average fluffy rom-com but still pretty by-the-numbers fluff all the same. A L thought it was gonna be meh, clicked on it for background noise, ended up loving it. a cute little rom com 💓 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/27/25 Full Review Janet D Lightweight and mindless, and the slapstick was ridiculous. But if you need to shut your brain off for a couple hours, this movie will do the trick. Otherwise, skip it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/24/25 Full Review Clay M What a dorky movie. It has a great cast, but they were all sort of "dumbed down" with this script. I really can't believe they agreed to do it, and I am betting they hope that nobody remembers that they were associated with this movie. It was over-the-top silliness, sort of like an old Jerry Lewis movie or a 3 Stooges movie, but without any comedic sensibilities. The attempt to be funny landed with a messy splat. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/21/25 Full Review Sheereen C The movie started off well with an adorable character. Rebecca played by Isla Fisher. She was endearing and deserved a better ending where she still got to shop as much as her heart desired, just with more money and not on credit cards! They should have shown that she hit the jackpot, became super rich as this inspiring journalist with fans that UNDERSTOOD how materialism gave her life meaning and pure joy. She had a great fashion sense and her possessions weren't just things. They each had their own place in her life and kept her happy. Consumerism isn't just consumerism. It is a privilege, a gift, and a blessing if you KNOW what to spend your money on and avoid purchasing low quality garbage. We live in a world where there are alot of beautiful things available that go on sale so that people from all income groups can afford them. What makes it confusing is that people are given so many choices, and so many varieties, that they sometimes make wrong decisions and spend their money on crap instead of lovely things. Rebecca dressed well, so she obviously had good taste and did not waste her money. Although the green scarf could have been made more regal with high quality material, embroidery, or needlework or embellishments to make it unique rather than being just a green scarf. The movie made no sense , her support group forced her to donate her expensive TV show debut dress and bridesmaid dress to charity to create a new "mindset". When she changed her mind and requested them to give the dresses back, they did not co operate and wanted a huge sum of money in return. Her boyfriend who was from an affluent family/background with an influential position, could have easily helped her clear her debt. She could have also taken the job that she was offered and used her charm/writing skills to the best of her ability while still keeping the best interest of her audience/readers in mind. I understand that she refused the position because of her beliefs but it could have helped her pay off her debt and landed her a dream job where she could have won over her boss and influenced her. She was guilt tripped too much and the debt collector could have worked with her to find a solution. What i found most difficult to believe was that the support/addiction recovery group and the movie that she watched, convinced her to get rid of her things /sell them. She and her green scarf were able to captivate such a huge national and international audience/so many fans who were inspired by her words and felt liberated from the shackles of minimalism, by actually indulging in their wants/needs. However, The same audience ended up purchasing her belongings which she auctioned out of desperation instead of feeling sorry for her and requesting her to hold on to them/keep them because of emotional attachment. She was clearly talented at finding great finds and amazing deals..she could have easily turned that into a second income stream through retail arbitrage, and her fans/audience would have loved to purchase her precious collection instead of her auctioning off her OWN belongings that were purchased for her own use. Just because something is purchased on a card doesn't mean that she didn't earn it. She just happened to exceed her budget which could have been paid off with a payment plan, and her new job!! Rebecca was very pretty as well. It's very difficult to believe that such a pretty, intelligent woman was on the verge of bankruptcy and had to auction off her precious belongings to gain financial stability. The ending was horrible because they showed her content with only love/her relationship while wearing borrowed clothes and embracing this new empty life. This movie was disappointing and could have had an alternative ending where she learnt to prioritize her shopping list, became a personal shopper/reseller and only bought things that were truly amazing/worth it while curbing her obsession to buy random things. So sad because the movie had so much potential!! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/19/25 Full Review thiago s Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/14/25 Full Review Brooke J This is the shittiest movie ive ever laid my eyes on.
