Critics Consensus

Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen's superficial tendencies are unlikely to appeal to older viewers -- though its colorful candor is decidedly not intended for them in the first place.

Alexandrea Nicole P NGL, "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen" is the perfect title for this movie. However, with its meandering plot & lackluster direction, Confessions falls short from being rememberable after half an hour. I understand the general message of "just being you is enough", but I do wish the movie was better constructed for us to care more about the story. I feel like there were more interesting focuses or merged scenes that could have been edited from the school, NY, etc. The main good points is Lola, as a character and dialogue, as pure unfiltered dramatic camp, the catchy 5 minute musical number by the end of the film (which most kids at the time probably expected this movie to entail), and the best friend who plays a grounded counterpart to our protagonist. I honestly just didn't know where we were heading with this movie - and i did get frustrated at times. But, this movie holds a soft spot due to being one of my memorable childhood movies. So, this is its biased score. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/07/24 Full Review Dale R Based on a novel by Dyan Sheldon and starring Lindsay Lohan as a compulsive liar who wants to meet her favorite rock star. I am not the target demographic for this movie as it is obviously targeting teenage girls. The story at its core is “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” story, but with a teenage girl in modern times. My biggest problem with the story was that this “boy” didn’t lose his flock after lying repeatedly. Instead she feels bad for herself for a night, then gets the boy and defeats the villain. Acting wise Lohan does great as does Megan Fox in her theatrical debut. I have seen a few of these movies that are targeting a younger female demographic and at this point they have become formulaic. This film was complete with a getting dressed montage, and a pop concert ending. If you like Lindsay Lohan as an actress or are a teenage girl this movie is worth checking out, otherwise skip it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Jon L Lindsay Lohan was great in this. Such a fun performance! Loved. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/24 Full Review Mariana J I think this movies is to watch when your at your room chiling. This is certainly my comfort movie cus' I think that the story is great and lindsay in this movie is just perfect. I love the play of confessions of a teenage drama queen too. I think that this movie is just iconic and it also has a lesson behind it. :) hope you enjoy it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/24 Full Review Esra Y It's campy, hilarious. Lindsay Lohan shines as always and Allison pill give good balance. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/29/23 Full Review Red T Bad and complete mess structurally. The acting isn't good at all. Everyone is giving over the top performances with bad dialogue, jokes that never hit, and there isn't any chemistry or charm with anyone. The cinematography isn't good either with basic camera work, forgettable locations, and this has a good amount of dumb scenes in it that are just stupid. The music is the best thing in this and that's saying a lot because its just ok being a generic 2000's pop score. The editing & pacing is bad as well. This feels like two stories about a school play and concert in NYC story arcs that never merge together to form a cohesive narrative and the plot is very razor thin to begin with and it feels like they drag scenes on way more than it has to be. That is on top of the weird out of place imaginative scenes with terrible green screen. This honestly should never have been made into a movie but two 30 minute Disney channel episodes for a sitcom. Even if your a fan of Lohan skip this because it lacks any charm at all. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
