Pomelo S Creative lore for Aswang. It's written similar to the origins of notorious serial killers - going through a lot pain can break one's sense of humanity. Aside from the chills it give to children watching (things like "don't cry or the aswang will hear you" or "don't go out of the house at night or the aswang will get you"), the movie is actually an eye-opener. The setting of the movie is 1946, where superstition and religion were the only things that were available to explain peculiar phenomenon. Mental health services at the time were non-existent to help people navigate traumatizing experiences healthily. As with every origin story of serial killers in history, this movie similarly suggests that the unavailability of mental health services is what creates monsters. However, the movie used laughable props which ruined the vibe. The makeup was also not well though of, especially the smears on the face which are inaccurately placed. I also didn't like how the aswang went out of character by the end of the movie, the plot died right there. What were the writers/director thinking? Good performance by Erich though. I appreciate her acting in this movie. Overall, I think it's a good movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/05/25 Full Review Audience Member Excruciatingly intense horror/mystery/suspense film... Totally you will feel the setting of the movie if you understand Hiligaynon... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member The storytelling is not flawless and the horror is deficient. But the atmosphere created by its vibrant cinematography is so riveting, you will immediately feel the excitement of meeting the second aswang. http://goo.gl/UKrpC Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member A horror story that doesn't know its a horror story. They marry, she gets pregnant, her baby dies, she goes insane, kills other kids for the heck of it then they run away together...never to be seen again. Plain, Awful Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member It does have a good concept: clever and savagely unique but sadly, it gets too easily convoluted leading to an uninspiring turn of events. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Nice cinematography and I wish I could say the same thing for whole film. Traditional Philippine cinema that lacks complexity and focuses on the love story. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
