Time Out The film never works out its political confusions. But even more problematic are the supernatural powers with which its innocent protagonist is endowed, probably the sticking point for wide audience acceptance. May 13, 2008 Full Review TV Guide Political messages, ganja smoking, and Rastafarian preachiness are complemented by plenty of great music from Bob Marley and the Wailers, the Gladiators, and others. Rated: 3/4 May 13, 2008 Full Review Film4 Better to buy the soundtrack featuring Marley and the Maytals and give the movie a miss. May 13, 2008 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I loved Countryman, especially the absolutely fantastic soundtrack. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member In this great portrayal of life in certain parts of Jamaica, you are exposed to a culture with differing morals and values of western society. A very interesting movie that will teach you a lot about Rastafari life. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Rastafarian fisherman with a big heart takes care of a confused american couple that crashes into Jamaica in a small aeroplane. without a doubt he handle wounds and feed the helpless caucasians not knwing what implications this wil have for himself and the littlefishing village he lives in. Some parts are blurry (I watch the movie without subtitles, and I'm swedish for gods sake) Some parts a bit strange and others are straightforward action. The reggaemusic follows the movie everywhere of course, but this is not a film that actually is about music like "the harder they come" or "Rockers" were, but the script is influenced by the lyrics of music of the giamnt himself, Mr Bob Marley. Close to real events with violence around elections and corruption in the police force. Jamaica is in deed a beautiful but brutal country. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member ya mon, a real Jamaican movie. i absolutely love the original footage of old Jamaica. A must see for all yardies! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member This is the story of a living legend named Countryman (as himself) and his battle against the corrupt Jamaican government. He's a ganja smoking, homeless, superhuman Rastaman. One day Countryman saves a couple after he sees their plane crash into a swamp full of crocodiles. They are nice people, but for some reason the Jamaican government sends out the army to go kill them. Can Countryman defeat the crocodiles, cops and the whole Jamaican army with his bare hands? Well, as long as someone has a fat doobie to fuel his Rastafari superpowers he can. Hey Bogart: Puff puff give! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member It was a very interesting film. The plot is very hard to follow. I believe that is because of the dialect of Jamaica and probably a few gaps in plots. As far as the depiction of the culture of Jamaica and Rastas it is a good representation. There are hardly any trained actors so most people are playing themselves. The Soundtrack is amazing tho sometimes it seems to clash with what you just saw happen. Overall enjoyable just not a masterpiece. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews
