Christopher D Badly acted, poorly executed. It has what could be a fascinating premise, but it has about as much appeal as mediocre fanfiction. But its fun, campy , yes that final battle could have been better with different types of magic weaponry, but it is, what it is . I loved the relationship of the boys, and the leadership role of the main (witch)Caleb. I think its a fun movie to watch during spooky season. They tried to appeal to a male audience i get that and it didn't work. But as a lover of this genre it gives you a break from the normal Teen/female Witch characters we always saw. Now there are a bigger variety of Male witch characters being created for T.V and Movies making it now the norm. But at least the creators of this movie were brave enough to try and make something a bit different and try to cater to a wider audience. Over all a solid movie. It isn’t for everybody, but it knows what it is and does it very well. It’s a David DeCoteau movie, but with a budget. It’s for the same audience as series like Shadowhunters, or Starcrossed, or Tomorrow People, or Beyond, or Kyle XY (and so on and so on). It doesn’t have the extensive backstory / lore that “Smallville” had, but the writing was at least as good as, say, “I Am Number Four.” Now, if you have never heard of any of those shows and movies I mentioned, or if you disliked them, then: do not watch this movie! It’s not for you. But for anyone to dismiss this movie as “objectively bad” simply shows that they are ignorant of the popularity that this style of show has for its target audience. “The Covenant” knows exactly what that audience wants—and it delivers it perfectly!
