Audience Member One of the best anti-war movies set in a bleak poverish small northern Chinese village during Japanese brutal invasion in WW II. The unusual 'bond' and chemistry between the illiterate main character and the the cow is fascinating to watch. Huang Bo is an amazing actor, so is the 'cow'. Rated 3/5 Stars •  Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member A wise combination of tragedy (50%) and comedy (50%) about a man who is the only survivor to the attack that his small village suffers within the framework of the Japanese invasion of China in the early 40's. But another survivor awaits him: a cow he must take care of, because it is the only source of food in the area, so he must face both the Japanese Army and the Chinese locals to protect the animal over everything. It's a great lesson of human behavior under not very human conditions. Bo Huang, the main actor, does a great work, as well as the photography director. One of the best Chinese films of this year, and maybe the first time China offers a comedy view over its confrontation with Japan. A must.
