Bob Thomas Associated Press Moore is the one who keeps the champagne bubbling. He is in top form, a delightfully demented leprechaun. Jon G This is a wonderful movie! This is a classic--and anyone who might try to tell you otherwise is CRA--Hey...Hey...Hey...HAZY!!! Just like the Inmates in this movie! Am I right? Or am I right? Or am I right?...Right, right, right, right! Ohhhhh, HoHo! PHIL! PHIL CONNORS! Long time since I ever thought I would see YOU here! PHIL! PHIL! How've you been, old buddy! Good to see you again. We should get together again, for Lunch! How 'bout this afternoon? Say, 3 o'clock? We could get together and-- (Phil bolts, steps into a pothole off the street corner, filled with cold water.) NED: Weh...Heh...Heh...Heh...Hell! Watch out for that first step! 'Cuz it's a DOOZY!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/06/24 Full Review Larry K I have not laughed that much in a long time Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/18/24 Full Review Raif D Brilliant. If you didn't get the movie that's exactly why it was made. Hello. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/24 Full Review MacLane K I rewatched this little-known film for the first time since the early 90s. I remember enjoying it back then, but didn't know if it would hold up. It does. Originally, John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer were cast in the leads, but as weird as the pairing is, Dudley Moore and Daryl Hannah work better. Moore has considerably better comedic delivery and Hannah brings a sweetness to the role, while Pfeiffer would have, at most, brought sexiness. For a box office dud, this film is packed with excellent talent, some whose names you'll know and others who will prompt "Hey! That guy!" All of them provide solid performances. Further, it's loaded with hilarious gags, even in the background. I found myself pausing to be sure I could read all the ad posters they'd have on the walls, and I wasn't disappointed. I suspect the writers' best fake ads made it into the dialogue and those that just missed the cut still ended up in the background. Unlike most comedies that forget they're comedies about 2/3 of the way through or even sooner, this one does a good job of keeping it funny all the way to the end. Sure, the main character "learns" something, but the movie gets through that quickly and immediately gets back to the comedy. I only gave it four stars because the run time is a little short and could have been pumped up with another 10 or 20 minutes of fun, fake ads (perhaps similar to how RoboCop did that, but even more). With so many different kinds of products out there, they missed a lot of opportunities. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/08/23 Full Review Steve D Far better in theory than execution. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved this movie as a kid, though it was probably inappropriate with some of the ad slogans. It still is a great little comedy, and Darryl Hannah is every man's fantasy about what waits for him at the insane asylum. Paul Reiser is also young and twinkly in this one, and does a good job at playing the opportunist who knows to exploit a hot commodity (mental patients) when they become accidentally profitable.
