In a dilapidated former Arctic research station, the Creature has been conscripted by a military brigade into a bold new experimental program. He is being tested for his mental and physical ability to adapt to extreme cold, isolation and homesickness; vital qualities in mankind's proposed colonization of the 'final frontiers' on earth and beyond. Creature is an unearthly tale of exploitation and human frontiers inspired by Georg Büchner's expressionist classic Woyzeck, with shadows of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Drawing on themes of abandonment, isolation and the fragility of the mind, Creature is the tale of an outsider and the search for belonging.

Debra Craine Times (UK) Enigmatic and claustrophobic — the setting is an old Arctic research station — the film gets inside the creature’s head in a way live performance can’t. Rated: 4/5 Mar 2, 2023 Full Review Beth Webb Empire Magazine Kapadia’s documentary sensibilities work astutely in this beautifully performed ensemble piece. A soulful and engaging feat in collaborative filmmaking. Rated: 4/5 Mar 1, 2023 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian This is an intriguing one-off, reaching out beyond dance connoisseurs to anyone who wants to see something genuinely strange which can’t be pinned down to a single explanation. Rated: 4/5 Feb 22, 2023 Full Review Saibal Chatterjee NDTV It explores the condition of an outsider in a setting where nothing is allowed to be in his control. Creature is a marvel. Nov 17, 2023 Full Review Edward Porter Sunday Times (UK) Creature is a rather opaque ballet, and the film doesn’t overcome the deadening atmosphere that often afflicts films of stage performances. Rated: 3/5 Mar 2, 2023 Full Review Helen Hawkins The Arts Desk Immediately, Kapadia has turned the piece from a busy spectacle to be watched from one angle only -- the front -- into an absorbing in-the-round drama. He is aided in this by the supreme acting talent of his Creature, Jeffrey Cirio. Rated: 4/5 Feb 24, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
