Tim Brayton Antagony & Ecstasy The happenings of the Gill Man, and how he comes to walk among us, are there more to flesh out the story of a toxic marriage than to serve as the main narrative thrust. Rated: 5/10 Dec 17, 2016 Full Review Paul Chambers Movie Chambers A terrible horror flick that I liked anyway. Scientists speed up evolution to turn the gill monster human. The manfish is almost likable. Ultimately, the film is not. Rated: C+ Oct 26, 2014 Full Review Rob Humanick Suite101.com Among the most underrated entries in Universal's diverse monster catalog. Rated: 3/5 Oct 16, 2011 Full Review Steve Crum Video-Reviewmaster.com Third in trilogy of Creature movies is best as monster is captured, experimented upon to be turned human. Blu B Worst one of the trilogy. The acting is just ok. Everyone is robotic, blends in, wooden, and I seriously couldn't care less about anyone really. The creature...they made him into like a Gillman Karloff type monster. It sort of is cool I guess but it's nowhere near as cool as the original design. It looks cool but also looks a little weird to me. Reminds a lot of Frankenstein. The music is just ok. The creature music theme is barely used in this and everything else is just super forgettable. The cinematography isn't that good and neither is the ediitng with terrible pacing for a barely 75 minute film. The first 40 minutes or so is just them trying to locate and chase down the creature again while looking at sonar pings and boring underwater scenes. The creature is maybe in the first half say 30 seconds if that. It's about the stupid romance and love triangle and revisiting the same plot line we've seen multiple times and done so much better. I'm not kidding when I say 6% of this film is romance and trying to develop the stock characters that makes it so boring. You literally could cut this down probably to 40-45 minutes and lose nothing. Than in the last 20-30 minutes it tries to do a Nature vs Nuture commentary but it comes out of nowhere, isn't done well, and your so bored by this point you really could care less. It's just an excuse to have the creature be able to attack on land and go on a rampage which isn't even that much. There's hardly any kills in this also which is suprising. I think 2 total. Than it just ends and it feels like the whole thing was dragged out, pointless, boring, and a waste of time. Skip This. There are way better movies that do the message/theme this is exploring way better and a very disappointing way to end the trilogy. Just stick to the first one. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/18/24 Full Review NiB Y The most underrated monster movie i've ever seen. The first 20 minutes are quite slow and boring to get through, with heavy use of recycled footage, but after that it delivers a very original take on the monster and the genre itself; with the Gill-Man transforming into a land animal, and showing to be much more sympathetic and just good in general than all except 2 of the human characters. The heavy themes of abusive relationships and mistreatment towards nature from humans are treated with respect and seriousness Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/03/24 Full Review Andrew L This is the last of The Universal Studios Classic Monster Movie films ever to be made. Out of the three "Creature-Features." this isn't the best, but it is far better than the second film, even though the explores find The Creature faster than any of us could find a missing sock. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/26/24 Full Review Valerii Ege D The film begins as a horror, but then suddenly discovers its humanity and turns the subject into "creatures' have hearts too." which is weird. Yeah, it's an odd movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/14/23 Full Review Steve D Nice bounce back with something new to say about the creature. This time he is joined by a far scarier monster... Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/02/23 Full Review Bill T A bit of a bizarre conclusion to the Creature series. Here a group of scientists hope to capture the beast, initially to study it etc. But one of the scientists has more ominous ideas. He wants to make it more human! So they capture it, burn most of it's skin off and then do treatments. It winds up looking a lot like Tor Johnson. There's also a subplot of the head scientist treating his wife horribly. which blends in nicely with the main story. But really, this one DRAGS, and thankfully, that was the end of THIS series.
