Zach Long Time Out Afforded insider access, Creem takes the opportunity to burnish the magazine's contribution to music journalism and rock 'n' roll culture. Rated: 3/5 Aug 11, 2020 Full Review Ty Burr Boston Globe That a new documentary about the people who wrote and published it is this close to a shambling mess is both appropriate and cheering. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 10, 2020 Full Review Mikael Wood Los Angeles Times Yet "Creem..." does so little to showcase Creem's writing... that any viewer who hasn't read dozens of moldy back issues is left to wonder why anybody, inside or outside the magazine's office, would tolerate so much nonsense. Aug 7, 2020 Full Review Leslie Hatton Vague Visages There was nothing else like ‘CREEM’ back then, and there’s still nothing like it now. That’s not only a testament to the importance of the magazine, it’s also a sad commentary on what’s lacking in modern music criticism. Feb 7, 2024 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Isn't as rough around the edges as the magazine it documents, but it does display why a scrappy upstart from Detroit was able to make and leave its mark. Rated: 3/5 Mar 4, 2021 Full Review Benjamin H. Smith Decider With affection, candor and the same irreverence it heaped on the rockers of yesteryear, Creem: America's Only Rock 'n' Roll Magazine celebrates the coolest music rag of all-time and explains what made it great. Facebook U Really cool documentary. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/18/20 Full Review kevin c Documentary that chronicles the rock n roll magazine as it came into creation almost on a whim, by a small core of rock fans in Detroit and how it quickly became popular amongst fans and the bands they covered despite the turmoil within the mostly inexperienced writers and staff. Very interesting documentary with interviews from surviving staff, Cameron Crowe, Chad Smith, Joan Jett, Suzi Quatro, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and many more. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Indispensable piece of RnR history. Fun and insightful Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member excellent film...saw it via Prime Video, but would like a DVD copy...anyone know if/when it will be released on DVD??? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member It was great. In Boy Howdy We Trust. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member I grew up reading CREEM, literally. I was born in 1972 and reading by the age of 3. I was obsessed with music and probably first saw CREEM from my parents at a very young age. I learned so much from that magazine and honestly the documentary showed me even more. I always wondered about that bunch beyond Lester Bangs (as I have read his books and Jim Dero's book) and this film showed it all. I literally waited a year to see it, tweeting the magazine demanding it's release, and rented it immediately. I want to own this on DVD and am excited for the 50th anniversary issue. This is a must see for any music fan. So well done. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews
