After marrying the charming and seductive Sir Thomas Sharpe, young Edith (Mia Wasikowska) finds herself swept away to his remote gothic mansion in the English hills. Also living there is Lady Lucille, Thomas' alluring sister and protector of her family's dark secrets. Able to communicate with the dead, Edith tries to decipher the mystery behind the ghostly visions that haunt her new home. What [Guillermo] del Toro had in mind when shooting Crimson Peak was probably a stylish gothic period piece in the same acclaimed lane as Pan's Labyrinth. Unfortunately, Crimson Peak fails to work on that level.

This is a goth horror movie that is reminiscent of Hammer and other old timey studios, it’s goth horror that knows how to build a few scares, but mainly how to build attachments to the characters to make you feel their plight.

My favourite movie of all time! I'd followed production of this movie since the beginning and was a bit shocked when the final film did not represent the marketing AT ALL. But I loved it for what it is very quickly. It's NOT a horror or haunted house movie in the traditional sense. What Guillermo Del Toro has crafted is a BEAUTIFUL, engaging, atmospheric classic gothic horror ala Victorian novels and penny dreadfuls. It's compelling and gorgeous while also being repulsive and horrifying. Every single shot, set dressing, costume, acting choice draws you in and tells its own unique story while adding to the overall narrative. 10/10

A fantasy style horror film by Guillermo del Toro. With a great cast including Jessica Chastain and Tom Hiddleston. A vulnerable female leaves her home town to move to a gothic mansion with a dark past. She is in love with the owner(Tom Hiddleston). Slowly the female lead discovers what is truly going on and the film ends with a thrilling finale.
