After marrying the charming and seductive Sir Thomas Sharpe, young Edith (Mia Wasikowska) finds herself swept away to his remote gothic mansion in the English hills. Also living there is Lady Lucille, Thomas' alluring sister and protector of her family's dark secrets. Able to communicate with the dead, Edith tries to decipher the mystery behind the ghostly visions that haunt her new home. As she comes closer to the truth, Edith may learn that true monsters are made of flesh and blood.

What [Guillermo] del Toro had in mind when shooting Crimson Peak was probably a stylish gothic period piece in the same acclaimed lane as Pan's Labyrinth. Unfortunately, Crimson Peak fails to work on that level.

Chastain, Wasikowska, and Hiddleston do their best, but the writing of “Crimson Peak“ comes off far more slight than Del Toro’s previous work. It lives in the shadow of similar films, but with a far more unrelieved energy.

Excellent gothic fairy tale of sorts. The three main leads are extremely charismatic. It's not necessarily a predictable movie which makes it interesting. The sets and costumes are magnificent.

This is Too Long, and lacks pace... if it were shorter and/or more dynamic with at least ONE Twist it would have been far far better... it plods along in a very linniar fashion only held together by decent actors and the production budget... watchable at best...

If you believe style IS substance, and you admire gothic style, there's plenty for you to enjoy here. For me, the Jane Eyre inspired/rip-off romance didn't take and the style couldn't rescue it.

This is my all time favorite movie. The characters are so realistic in how they behave it makes you a lot more attached to them and the story. Has a very good twist. Would rewatch this movie again and again.
