      Critics Consensus

Dull and derivative, Cry_Wolf is a subpar slasher that even ardent fans of the genre may find difficult to enjoy.

HG H A waste of time with an even more wasteful ending that made it feel so much more insultful Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/11/24 Full Review Elvis D Esta película de suspenso pinta como si fuera un slasher, pero en realidad no lo es. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/18/23 Full Review jelisije j A decent slasher film that took a risk and had it paid off with the ending? An unexpected enjoyment. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Liam D It is sometimes gleefully stupid and kinda played straight and it cannot find a good balance Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/09/22 Full Review Audience Member This is not a good movie to begin with, and it really didn't age well! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Turd in teen slasher punch bowl. What turns out to be unbelievable and hard to accept in this film, never eases, and ultimately the suspension of disbelief, which needs to be earned...is not. We are asked to accept certain assumptions that are revealed in the end. Those assumptions are based on a weak story line. I waited for the big reveal and was cheated of it in the end. Ultimately a forgettable film and story. The acting wasn't half bad actually, so I feel for the thespians asked to deliver this week plot, an unachievable goal, for anyone. Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness A tedious throwaway horror film without a logical marble in its head. Rated: C Dec 30, 2005 Full Review Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle Rumors of the slasher genre's death have not been greatly exaggerated, if this Chrysler Million Dollar Film Contest winner is any indication. Rated: 1/5 Oct 1, 2005 Full Review Keith Phipps AV Club Is there anything scarier than a threatening text message? Sure: Werewolves, vampires, killer diseases, and comedies written by and starring Jenny McCarthy come immediately to mind. Oct 1, 2005 Full Review Alistair Lawrence Common Sense Media So, despite occasionally mustering some intrigue, Cry Wolf remains a howling disappointment. Rated: 2/5 Jun 29, 2022 Full Review Felix Vasquez Jr. Cinema Crazed It attempts to be taken as a slasher film but it's not a slasher whatsoever, it's a gigantic tease. Apr 29, 2009 Full Review Anton Bitel Eye for Film Cry Wolf is certainly an impressive calling card for its co-writer/director Jeff Wadlow, even if ultimately it is too derivative to qualify as something to howl about.
