Valerie Complex Black Girl Nerds It's a gore fest that contains surprisingly suspenseful moments which bode well until the third act where things fall apart. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 11, 2017 Full Review Stephen Dalton The Hollywood Reporter A lean 91 minutes long, Cult of Chucky is part self-spoofing slasher, part lowbrow bloodbath and all guilty pleasure. Ryan H The original cast returns as multiple Chuckys go looking for Nica in an insane asylum and Andy come back to save the day. This movie has one of the better plots, the quality still looks cheap. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/16/25 Full Review Carlos s Honestly, Cult of Chucky wasn’t good at all. I feel like they’re just dragging out Chucky’s story at this point, and this movie was more confusing than scary. The whole thing with the multiple Chuckys felt super weird, and by the end, it wasn’t even scary anymore — it was just kinda funny. I didn’t really care about the characters, and some scenes were just straight-up ridiculous. The mental hospital setting could’ve been super creepy, but they didn’t use it well. For me, it was a weak attempt to keep the franchise going. The original is still way better. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/16/25 Full Review Luiz Henrique S Esse filme não tem terror mas tem suspense, e eu adoro, Andy Barclay está de volta e finalmente vimos o Chucky entrar no corpo humano, e a trilha sonora que toca durante o filme é bem sinistra, esse filme é muito bom Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/03/25 Full Review Shaun R Can’t get enough of Chucky, but there’s something about the 80s and early 90s films I miss. This is entertaining enough, but not a classic horror like the originals. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/11/25 Full Review TheMovieSearch R Cult of Chucky stands as one of the more surprising and satisfying entries in the long-running Child’s Play saga, bridging the gap between the classic films and the modern Chucky TV series with both style and substance. What makes this installment so effective is its ability to balance the series’ trademark dark humor with genuine horror, something that many of the later sequels struggled to maintain. It feels like a return to form while still offering something new for longtime fans. One of the strongest aspects of Cult of Chucky is its commitment to continuity. This film doesn’t abandon the past; instead, it embraces it by bringing back key characters and storylines that date all the way back to the original trilogy. Seeing familiar faces again gives the film emotional weight and nostalgia, while also providing closure for lingering plot threads that earlier movies left unresolved. It’s a rare horror sequel that respects its history and uses it to strengthen the present. The screenplay feels cohesive and deliberate, something that can’t always be said for late-stage horror franchises. The setting—a mental institution—adds an extra layer of tension and paranoia. It’s a clever backdrop that allows Chucky’s brand of chaos to thrive while keeping the audience guessing about what’s real and what’s imagined. The claustrophobic environment also enhances the suspense, making this one of the more atmospheric entries in the series. Visually, Cult of Chucky is stylish and polished, with strong direction that embraces both its campy roots and modern horror sensibilities. The kills are inventive, the humor lands without undercutting the scares, and the pacing keeps the story tight and engaging. The decision to incorporate multiple Chuckys—each with their own personality—was a risky move, but it works surprisingly well, amplifying the insanity without losing focus. What really makes this film stand out is the sense that it’s tying everything together. From Child’s Play through Seed of Chucky, every entry finds some acknowledgment here. It’s as if the franchise finally took a breath, looked back, and decided to stitch its wild, uneven history into a cohesive mythology—and it actually succeeded. Cult of Chucky isn’t perfect, but it’s clever, entertaining, and deeply satisfying for fans who’ve been on this bloody ride since the beginning. It manages to be both a love letter to the series and a bridge to its future, proving that even after decades of terror, Chucky still has plenty of life—and laughs—left in him.
