Born under unusual circumstances, Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt) springs into being as an elderly man in a New Orleans nursing home and ages in reverse. Twelve years after his birth, he meets Daisy, a child who flickers in and out of his life as she grows up to be a dancer (Cate Blanchett). Though he has all sorts of unusual adventures over the course of his life, it is his relationship with Daisy, and the hope that they will come together at the right time, that drives Benjamin forward.

It could have worked, had it ever snapped to life, but it doesn't. It just goes on and on and on and on and on and on. And on. You may even shake your watch to check it is still going. I know I did. Go to Full Review

The film was an unqualified success. Few movies lasting nearly three hours with quasi-downbeat material please both audiences and critics, yet it remains low on the lists of Pitt’s, Blanchett’s, Fincher’s, and Roth’s most notable efforts. Go to Full Review

The effect, which isn’t fully grasped until absorbed in its entirety, plays like a moody fairy tale, romantic and magical, with flourishes both elegiac and unusual. Go to Full Review

It's not supposed to be. It's subtle. An exposé about finding meaning in life, how each person you meet shapes you in various ways, regardless of how you live your life, or how you were born. Time is precious- no matter what. See more John F Nov 12 Perhaps the most overrated film of the 2000s, given it was nominated for 13 Oscars (though it didn't win any of the "major" awards it still walked away with three trophies, which were in all fairness probably deserved for its production value). Would've been better as a short film, or at least with a far better script (just like Forrest Gump--which Eric Roth also wrote--CCBB claims it has something important to say but in the end it's superficial fluff, like a feather that floats away in the wind). When you decide to make a movie this long you better give a good reason; it easily could've had 30 minutes shaved off its running time. In fact, the story is just plain absurd: how would such a man escape the national, even global, attention of having such a condition? Meanwhile, why lie to your daughter about the truth? Shallow and possibly even offensive, though perhaps not as much so as Gump was. See more Matthew K. @mjameskay Nov 8 Incredible love and death story start to finish. See more Jen N @Jennever Oct 17 Grief is inevitable; as we grow older, we'll inevitably attend more funerals than birthday parties, and the reward of a long life is watching everything but your own self be swept away by time and tide. But perhaps love is inevitable as well. See more Carson K Sep 17 Beautiful. One of the best movies ever madr See more Read all reviews
