Zack B http://letterboxd.com/zbender/film/dana-carvey-squatting-monkeys-tell-no-lies/ Dana Carvey has seemed to be irrelevant in recent years. However, after watching this and looking through his filmography it's really sad that his career is now barren of work. After the panned Master of Disguse, he has only been in two films (both are Adam Sandler flicks). Of course there are some TV appearences, and then this stand up gem. In this there is a reminder that Dana has still got some talent. The impressions are spot on, and watching him move around with energy many years after his most well known failure is very encouraging. This special was seven years ago however, so I can only imagine what he's been up to since. Well, he was in Hotel Transylvania 2. That's hopeful right? No, that's pretty sad. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/21/15 Full Review Darrell T Very funny stand-up...lots of old fav's like George Bush, Ross Perot & The Church Lady...some old bits from his 1995 HBO show, Critic's Choice. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/27/13 Full Review Joe C Ive been a huge fan of Dana Carvey in general since I first saw Wayne's World as a child. After he put out Master of Disguise, which wasn't technically too bad, just so stupid, I thought he wouldn't be able to come back. His stand up on the other hand is fantastic, and his outlook on everything is so great. The politic pieces he does are extraordinary. If you like stand up at all or Dana Carvey at all for that matter, this is one stand up DVD you should definitely check out. David Hinckley New York Daily News Since Carvey built much of his "Saturday Night Live" reputation on imitations of political personalities, he finds a way here to mash a half-dozen of them together... It's comedically okay, but it feels like nostalgia humor. Aug 1, 2019 Full Review Dorothy Rabinowitz Wall Street Journal A Carvey comedy special comes with special problems -- for one, a star with minimal skills for stand-up comedy. He's wildly repetitious, punishing to hear in his gnawing on the same mirth-free shtick. Aug 1, 2019 Full Review Sean O'Neal AV Club As a reviewer, the highest praise that I can give Squatting Monkeys is that Carvey avoids doing either Garth or The Church Lady. Aug 1, 2019 Full Review David Medsker Bullz-Eye.com Carvey is a funny, funny guy, but his latest HBO special feels like the work of someone who is either out of ideas or out of energy. Aug 1, 2019 Full Review Mark de la Viña Baltimore Sun Squatting Monkeys Tell No Lies straddles the manic and reflective. Carvey is perhaps a little more political than in the past, but he never veers too far from the unapologetically silly. Aug 1, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
