Audience Member What may have been a solid companion to self-aware, semi-spoof slashers like Behind the Mask and Scream is unfortunately ruined by its total lack of budget. Overall, Darkest Hour's core idea is a good one - a slasher-themed 'murder mystery' game goes sour when a real slasher begins to stalk and kill the contestants - but it's obvious the filmmakers just weren't able to pull off what they envisioned with the limited resources they had. The hammy acting and amateur script ("911, what is your emergency?" "There's a man in black trying to kill me!" "What does he look like?") can be forgiven considering the genre's history, but the poor quality of the film itself coupled with the lack of gore effects make it impossible for Darkest Hour to really compete with other current slashers. Still, it's a solid first attempt with a good central idea, and I'd like to see more from the makers of Darkest Hour in the future. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member I try to support low-budget Canadian horror films but this one is so full of logic problems it's hard to watch. Benjamin Gutknecht is the best part of this. I would watch something else he's in. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/11/23 Full Review Read all reviews
