What to know

      Critics Consensus

An uneasy blend of action and comedy, Date Night doesn't quite live up to the talents of its two leads, but Steve Carell and Tina Fey still manage to shine through most of the movie's flaws. Read critic reviews

Date Night is the kind of comedy we get a few times a year that's ok but never memorable, But with such a strong cast it should been better, It has its funny moments but there far few between, There's a fun car chase but apart from that there's nothing new.

It got me some laughs so it was worth it. Plus, they're quite charismatic.

Totally sucked. I hated Tina Fey (and have been impressed that I'm not alone when I hear other, particularly older people refer to her as "that horrible Tina Fey") until someone told me I might like her book, Bossypants which I did very much, so I've given her another chance. But this movie sucked. It's an utterly formulated accidental encounter with bad-guys type vehicle, and not really very funny or interesting due to it being silly and so, so derivative. We've seen this movie a hundred times before under other titles. I was expecting something closer to This Is 40, but I was disappointed. Sadly, she didn't write it. Perhaps if it had been her project and not somebody else's ...

"Date Night" isn't overtly funny or remarkable in any sense of the word, but it's entirely un-hateable as an action-comedy. Tina Fey and Steve Carrell (both of whom are considered two of the funniest active performers) aren't astounding with their performances, but they handle the material quite well and maintain a likable charisma. There are a few laughs to be had and some sequences are relatively exciting, and although "Date Night" is generic and not a spectacularly written, edited or directed film, it's passable entertainment.
