Gary Don't waste your time on this awful film. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/11/24 Full Review David W I've enjoyed some of Roger Cormans low budget work in the past, (Battle Beyond the Stars is a great Magnificent Seven/Seven Samurai in space lark) but this bargain basement Aliens/Forbidden World knock off was bloody terrible. This amusingly even reuses space battle footage from Battle Beyond the Stars. It's terribly acted, directed and opts for the brave choice of using wholly inappropriate music and effects to further degrade the woefully lacking suspense. The 'special' effects aren't the least bit special with creature effects being almost funny and laughably derivative. Marc Singer I can understand being awful but even the usually reliable Bryan Cranston is terrible in this mess. Not a so bad it's good movie, it's just plain bad. One of Cormans worst efforts and thats saying something.. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/09/24 Full Review DanTheMan 2 It's funny seeing a young Bryan Cranston act circles around what is commonly accepted in a movie of this stature and everyone else in a film that ultimately is a fairly underwhelming and extremely routine Alien clone. Notable for its title just as much as Cranston, Dead Space is a confusing experience because the movie is undecided as to whether it wants to be a spoof of the man v monster cosmic horror or a lazy cash-in. Granted the visual effects are extremely charming, even some of the special effects are recycled from other movies in that typical Corman fashion, it's at least sufficiently entertaining and pretty short meaning it won't take up too much of your time to view this little oddity. If nothing else, it's good for a laugh. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/13/23 Full Review shane h Loved the movie. Check out Bryan Cranston and Randy Reinholz!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member On paper, a film in which Bryan Cranston plays a scientist battling a slimy creature of his own creation should be schlocky gold... and yet it isn't. At all. The movie is crippled beyond recovery by its $1.98 budget that asks us to believe that the (barely) redressed conference rooms, service hallways, industrial warehouses, and accounting offices on display are actually supposed to comprise some kind of ultra-cool, futuristic research facility. Couple the nonexistent production design with horrendous cinematography (the sets seem to have been lit either by harsh fluorescent floodlights or no lights at all, often within the same scene) and you've got a movie that looks just plain awful. That said, Cranston is legitimately good, as is - shockingly - Marc Singer as the constantly irritated, wise-cracking fixer called in to deal with the monster situation. All told, however, this is not "so bad, it's good," it's "so bad, it's bad." Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Dead Space is yet another Alien ripoff from Roger Corman, but this time he seems to be ripping off his own ripoff: Forbidden World (at least that's how it comes off to me). The movie itself is a bit of a dud with a few splashes of interest throughout. Marc Singer doesn't do much to improve things. He's just sort of there, and while he tries to have a commanding presence, he sort of fails. There's some nice gore shots for those who are interested, but the framework surrounding them is mostly boring. I would recommend it mainly to fans of bad movies and Roger Corman productions, but otherwise, most won't get anything out of it. R.L. Shaffer IGN DVD Unfortunately, this remake of Forbidden World isn't nearly as trippy and entertaining as the original, playing to the genre's conceptual cliches a bit too often. Rated: 5/10 Nov 8, 2010 Full Review Read all reviews
