The Dead Zone combines taut direction from David Cronenberg and and a rich performance from Christopher Walken to create one of the strongest Stephen King adaptations.

Adam Nayman The Ringer What makes the The Dead Zone so frightening-and finally deeply moving-is how it commits to the psychology of a guy whose destiny is destroyed and fulfilled by the way he's slipping through the cracks. Craig W. This is a really good movie Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/07/25 Full Review Blu B A Classic Psychological Thriller. Really well made all around. You'd never guess this is Cronenberg because of the complete lack of any body horror elements but it's still a very bleak tone. It's a cool idea also. What would you do if you could change the future through telepathy. It can feel a bit episodic with each of the murder cases that happen and wrap up but it all follows a logical flow and is very smooth. The more personal aspects of John's life feel forgotten about at times to focus on the given mystery. Like the romance, his parents, his doctor, and his personal difficulties. The ending also can be a little farfetched given how there are a lot of conviences that lead to it. But overall it's still a good ending. this really isn't a horror movie but much more on the thriller side than anything. Anyone who is a fan of the director, any actors in this, King movies, or thrillers should give this a shot. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/01/25 Full Review Tim M Not your typical David Cronenberg fare, The Dead Zone overcomes a stagey presentation to make the most of its mystifying source material. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/29/25 Full Review Jonathan N Spoilers: Go watch the movie first, before reading this. Christopher Walken, you strange and beautiful man. One of a kind, and with Cronenberg directing? What's not to like! OK, so Brooke Adams I thought had a fairly weak performance. Overall, she just kind of smiled a lot. Everyone else, however, did fantastic. This film showcases Stephen King's great storytelling. I found the entire premise extremely engaging. I did find it overall to be a bit cheesy, and the storyline was somewhat disjointed. It did manage to capture my attention. I would probably not watch it again, but definitely worth a single viewing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/01/25 Full Review Theo E A Haiku Review: Walken career best Meets Cronenberg career best For best book from King Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/30/25 Full Review carl r I’ve not seen this film for 20 years rewatched a thriller a guy on the up with a bright future that’s taken away in a moment. Five years later he wakes up only to find his job is no more the woman he loves has moved on and remarried. In the hospital bed sweating profusely a nurse mops him down, grabbing her hand he sees her daughter trapped in a house fire. Johnny has been blessed or cursed depending on your point of view with the gift of prophecy. What happens next is the beginning of the end of his life with each more powerful vision he becomes weaker. A must watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/08/25 Full Review Read all reviews
