Launched in 1972, Ms. revolutionized the feminist movement, bringing new ideas to kitchen tables across the country, and starting provocative conversations about everything from politics to porn. In this feature documentary, three award-winning directors select iconic cover stories to explore the complexities of creating a magazine that is unafraid of wrestling with challenging and often polarizing issues within and beyond the feminist community. Now, more than 50 years later, the magazine's founders and star contributors reveal the untold story of this trailblazing publication--how it defied the odds, transformed its readers, and continually fought to uphold its bold ideals in the face of resistance.

John Anderson Wall Street Journal No one will escape without feeling like they’ve taken a trip into something weirdly, even darkly, historical. Not historical enough, perhaps. Jul 7, 2025 Full Review Cortlyn Kelly RogerEbert.com Despite its flaws, “Dear Ms.: A Revolution in Print” reminds us that authenticity is essential in acquiring and retaining acceptance and relevance, a message we need to hear now more than ever. Rated: 3/4 Jul 2, 2025 Full Review Elizabeth Weitzman TheWrap The general takeaway, though, is that this is a fascinating, complex story that needs to be told. Jun 11, 2025 Full Review Marya E. Gates Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) While this segmented structure allows for a much more complex look at the magazine’s legacy, warts and all, there is some overlap that makes the edit feel a bit disjointed when watched all in one go, and the ending feels incredibly abrupt. Jul 11, 2025 Full Review Diego Batlle Otroscines.com ...the three-part narrative structure...is very basic, but it's clear that the documentary's emphasis is...on sharing...a fundamental chapter in the history of feminism and the media. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Jul 9, 2025 Full Review Pat Mullen POV Magazine These chapters merely provide three stories among many, but they’re a fitting encapsulation of the Ms. legacy. Audience Member I absolutely loved the first segments and was ready to recommend this documentary to everybody I know. The final segment on erotica versus pornography has me feeling unsettled in an ugly way. I’m no prude, and I’m sure the filmmakers thought this segment was important, but it was such a bummer of an ending. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/15/25 Full Review Henry D Disappointing in several ways. The editing rearranged it in a way that made it like separate stories. Sadly the last half of the film was all about porn. Very little of the film dealt with every day women at work or at home. Very little on women in positions of power. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/04/25 Full Review Read all reviews
