Audience Member Pretty funny and whimsical. Acting is pretty on and good casting. Virtually every cliche about innocent people being dragged into the world of bad guys is found here. You have seen it all before over and over, and most of the acting is just as bad. The entire film feels like it’s been improvised all the way through - fast paced, chaotic. It’s an example of the characters’ behaviour affecting the plot of the film. This really interested me. The film doesn’t try to force laughs, it just pulls you along, and the sheer unpredictability - and wacky ‘characters’ they try to play the role of - will leave you in fits of laughter at certain points. It’s a perfect representation of building tension, then releasing all the tension at once. The film is based on infiltrating drug gangs - and despite the obvious intention for this to be a comedy - they do not hold back on the intensity! My only issue is Nick Mohammed’s character. He plays the part of the socially awkward character. However, rather than well-timed pauses creating comical awkwardness, they just take all the momentum out of the dialogue. Whilst watching, I got a bit annoyed! However, in his praise, this “third wheel” role significantly enhances the enticing chemistry between Bloom and Howard, his other cast members. Bloom absolutely masters his role of the intense, slightly off-script character. He’s a proper ‘captain chaos’ - all the action, and uncontrollable nature of the film, starts with him. Howard’s character is less insane, but arguably more ‘in character’. The pair of them is hilarious: Bloom throws a curveball, and Howard runs with it. It’s unpredictable, it’s fast-paced, and it’s brilliant! I know I’ve criticised it a bit, but don’t let that affect your judgment- this is a fun film. For sure, it’s not for everybody. People could see it as a bit ‘flat’ and ‘forced’, but if you’re into comedies that aren’t all sunshine and rainbows…and you like a bit of chaotic unpredictability…then this film is certainly for you!
