Fourteen-year-old Kaim (Kaim Alizadeh) flees his native Afghanistan for Delbaran, a town just inside of Iran's border, where he gets a job at a cafe. There, his brash personality prompts both admiration and annoyance as he adjusts to this largely lawless outpost of civilization, where drug trafficking and smuggling are the norm. As Khan (Rahmatollah Ebrahimi), his employer, tries to protect Kaim from immigration officials, the boy struggles with the harsh realities of refugee life.
