Audience Member Before talking about Delicate State, I have to confess that filmmakers Charlie & Paula are wonderful people & I'm fortunate enough to call them friends. Really had no idea what to expect when I saw the premiere tonight during Dances With Films. I thought it was just a #documentary about their 1st pregnancy & in a way it is. But wait, there's more! It's shot as a video diary of parents to their unborn child. So, in a sense, it's kinda like a found footage film. I can tell you from experience that just spending time w/ these 2 is a treat. Both are witty & quick on their feet, which is useful as this movie is all improv, no script. We see them discover her pregnancy. There's concern about placenta previa, which will loom large later. The history of the characters hew closely to their own, although neither is an actor in the movie. However, events in the outside world veer towards the dramatic as national unrest builds. Now, keep in mind that this was shot prior to Trump's presidency. So, the uncanniness of the prediction is a bit scary. Albeit this world gets considerably darker. For the most part, it all takes place in their apt, with a few doctor visits & the last act of the story, which I won't talk about because spoilers. While both have been involved in making various webseries, this is their 1st feature. I look forward to their 2nd. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews
