Joe Leydon Variety A potentially intriguing premise gets a maladroit execution in a thriller that's more befuddling than exciting. Jan 26, 2018 Full Review Kimber Myers Los Angeles Times It wants to be a commentary on the depravity of Hollywood and what people find entertaining, but instead it mostly just mirrors the media's habit of using sexual trauma as a plot device and surviving such horrors as a character trait. Jan 25, 2018 Full Review Dax Ebaben Bloody Disgusting In all, Desolation is not a bad film, it's simply middle-of-the-road. Respectably, the film has something to say and makes no bones about it. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 26, 2021 Full Review Leigh Monson Substream Magazine Desolation sits in that uncomfortable territory of either being sunk by the bungling of its twist or saved by its execution aside from that twist, depending on where one's priorities for cinematic satisfaction reside. Rated: 3/5 Oct 8, 2020 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed Desolation is a decent mystery film that brings a few new items to the table of its own sub-genre. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 12, 2020 Full Review Ashlee Blackwell Graveyard Shift Sisters Desolation is not quite popcorn fare with its spots of disturbing imagery, but it is a highly energetic, instropective, and honest piece. Audience Member Some very fresh ideas in here. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member It's nice to see a unique concept actually done well. It is not perfect. The premise is revealed too early, which leaves just a foot chase in a building to carry the movie. The use of rape and abortion as emotional triggers doesn't play well. The tension builds nicely and you feel it build within the lead character, although her reaction after the big reveal is not as good. Still, a movie worth watching. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member I liked it . It was different and the lead is a character you can root for. You can figure out what is going on early on if you pay attention , and are just waiting for the character to figure it out. It is not like a random story that leaves you wondering in the end. It has a beginning, middle and an actual end which is the most refreshing part of the film since those open -ended, you make up the end movies drive me nuts most times. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is horrible. Unoriginal, bad acting, unbelievable. Don't bother. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Reading the previous reviews.honestly I was skeptical when I watchied this but I was pleasantly surprised. I am a very much a horror movie fan and it takes a lot to impress me. Really I wasn't a hundred percent impressed but at least I was able to watch it without being bored like most of the horror movies today Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member a second or two cut from it. Many plot holes and I felt that my intelligence was insulted throughout as everything seemed over explained and you can see the "twists" coming from a mile away. Ultimately felt that it could have redeemed itself by empowering the female lead to go on a rampage of revenge but it left her a victim till the end and opted for a weak ending apparently to leave room for a sequel.
