09/21/2020 Like an on-the-cheap 'Mary Poppins' from Hell, 'Despiser' mixes live action with bottom-of-the-barrel, c. 2004 CGI to create a gleefully bonkers morality tale. If this aesthetic were featured in a 2020 indie rock music video, it would be a Pitchfork end-of-year best of. 'The Godfather' it ain't, but it's a fun outting so auteurishly idiosyncratic that it makes most Godard look like 'Law & Order' boilerplate.
