Audience Member Directed by Jorgen Bergmark, the film illustrates how people that face this problem, or even divorce, must endure. May and Sven-Erik basically do not want to end their marriages, but what can they do? Suddenly, these two people must put up with a situation they hate, watching the person they love become sexually involved right in front of their eyes. The experiment backfires because human emotions play tricks on the people that are helpless by a decision that will change their lives forever. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member A brilliantly acted and skillfully directed drama that was oddly marketed as a comedy, "Det enda rationella" is an honest, raw and straightforward movie about two couples who become one troubled polygamous relationship. The start of that relationship is less-than-ideal as it's a forced arrangement arrived at after a case of infidelity between the couples. We get to observe this dysfunctional beginning and get to see it evolve into something that doesn't really work either but is much deeper and complex than what it started out as. One could argue that Jörgen Bergmark takes the motifs and actors from classic progressive Swedish films and turns them around into a conservative statement. But it's very clear that what we have here is deeper than that, it doesn't concentrate on presumed moralistic axioms but instead presents the obstacles any people living outside of the norm experience, especially in a closed village community. The film states that the rational arrangement the characters arrive at isn't easy as people aren't as rational as we'd like to be, but that maybe we'd be better if we were. This ambitious and plausible relationship drama lets its characters present its content with their own voices, voices that would hope to be better than they are. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review razvan p if the characters weren't stupid and imature .. plot wize. I would've liked to see them pull through. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Yet again one of these "reality bites"-types of films, middle aged people in the mix of emotions and relationships, and mixed relationships. Weird, at times laugh out loud funny but... weird. hilariously weird... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member At the Zagreb Film Festival. A heap of beautiful scenery shots, even when not really necessary, subtle humour, obvious attention to detail, great acting, but this drags on at a snail's pace. Excessive use of closeups, sometimes for great effect, sometimes unnecessary. And though emotional (and distinctly Swedish in handling them), funny (hillarious at a couple of times) and grotesque in a way (the combo of the two, the script offers little in the way of surprises. One of the funniest touches was the song used when the credits started rolling :D. Great and bad at the same time (for me), hardly the best Swedish movie of 2009. 3.25+ Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Partly funny, partly painful to watch.
