Blu B It's not so much convuluted or incoherent as it is just meandering, unfocused for 60% of the runtime, and boring. The subject matter was done better in movies like Patriot Games, Bloody Sunday or In the Name of the Father from around this time. The real problem is the editing and pacing just aren't that good and everything else direction wise is just very ok. Once Pitt arrives in NYC it feels like stuff just happens. Bonding with Ford, Ford as a cop, the family, Pitt's relationship with Megan, the robbery, his partner shooting the guy in the back, other stuff that isn't important, all feels like it never connects together and just very boring. Ford & Pitt are alright but man they really don't get much chance of a cat and mouse game and most of the scenes with them are very restrained. They suprisngly don't have that much chemistry together which was suprising. Once he realizes he is a terrorist though it does pick up, get more focused, and become more of what you would expect. But again the direrction is just basic and the lighting half the time is very bland. The music is super boring and forgettable too despite having a Irish sounding theme lots of times. It very much reminds me a bit of something like The Siege where the premis is a great idea but it just fails and misuses it's assets at it's disposal completely for a multitude of reasons. Most people should skip this. there is way better films for these actors, the director, and the subject matter. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/01/24 Full Review Movie W Have to say as an irish man really enjoyed the movie. I understand the director had to keep it exciting and a little over exaggerated. But Brad Pritt's Northern Irish accent wasn't a piss take and there was no fiddle dee I'm irish aspects in the movie. Will 100% watch again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/31/24 Full Review Paul O Great acting Great action Score mixes well with the plot and both Pitt and Ford bring reality to the struggles of if Irishmen, police, and people who are forced to deal with moral and physical conflict . It is a bit too overt and obviously set up at points but they make it work. The plot had great potential but has some serious flaws. Why would someone set up an IRA guy to stay with a cop and lie to the cop about his job and also do seriously felonious activity and expect the cop to not notice and not even investigate the guy a little, even though the cop is also a girl dad and this dude is living with his family. That being said that might just be a me thing. Most Hollywood movies need a grain of salt and a lot of deus es maxima to get past those flaws and enjoy the moral conflicts this movie presents some juicy ones. The dialogue between Ford and Pitt is decent. Definitely worth watching, especially if you like Irish stuff and cop stuff. It is also worth a watch for the aesthetics of 80s-90s NYC. The intro gun fight between the IRA and unionist paramilitaries makes the movie worth a watch as well. The ending is disappointing but like Pitt says. It isn't an American story, it's an Irish one. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/26/24 Full Review angelino M Definitely has the qualities of a good movie but doesn't do anything extraordinary or risk taking Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/18/24 Full Review Sheri D I am confused as to why this movie got such bad reviews. it was a very good movie and the cast was excellent. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/14/24 Full Review Ken K I honestly don't know what this low rating is all about. I fooking love this movie. Great acting. Compelling story. Good balance of tense, happy, and sad moments. Even Brad Pitt's accent grows on you after a while. Seriously, I love it. Have a Guiness and give it a try.
