Critics Consensus

Diamonds are Forever is a largely derivative affair, but it's still pretty entertaining nonetheless, thanks to great stunts, witty dialogue, and the presence of Sean Connery.

Connery has a ball with great stunts, snappy dialogue and a bevy of typically Bondish beauties. Go to Full Review

Only the British apparently (judging by dozens of unfortunate imitations) can make a crude sex-and-violence formula yield such refined, exhilarating entertainment as this. Go to Full Review

With a sense of lifelessness, Diamonds Are Forever easily is the most boring Bond film. Go to Full Review

Charles 09/07/2022 Not as good as You Only Live Twice, but it’s just as witty and action packed. See more Wayne K 5d Overlong and disjointed, with a central story that wanders in and out of focus, not to mention how nonsensical the villains plan is, even for a Bond film. Blofeld is back, surprise surprise, but rather than being the sinister and calculating villain that he was before, he’s now a smug idiot who allows his greatest nemesis to wander round his base of operations and even touch some of his equipment, never thinking that he might be trying to sabotage it. Also the film is pretty light on action, a fact not lost on the filmmakers, who appear to have tossed in a few actions scenes as if to throw a bone to the audience. Its still a likeable enough movie, with a great performance from Connery despite his antipathy towards the role, and you have to give the film credit for really cementing the silly Bond cliches we’ve come to love and make fun of over the years and no doubt being the central basis for Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery. Not one of 007’s finest, but it has its moments. See more Oliver J Oct 28 Critics Consensus: “Diamonds Are Forever” delivers classic Bond glitz and Sean Connery charm, but an over-the-top plot, uneven pacing, and campy villains make this one of the less satisfying entries in the franchise. Review: Sean Connery returned to the role of 007 in Diamonds Are Forever, bringing his signature suavity and wit. However, the film struggles to match the intrigue and tension of earlier entries. The story, involving a diamond smuggling ring and the flamboyant Blofeld, feels disjointed and overly indulgent, leaning heavily on camp rather than suspense. The Las Vegas setting offers glitzy visuals and some fun action set pieces, including car chases and laser-equipped antics, but they often feel contrived and overblown. Jill St. John’s Tiffany Case adds charm but little depth, and the tone wavers between playful and absurd, leaving the film uneven in execution. Verdict: Diamonds Are Forever has moments of Bond flair and Connery charisma, but the campy excess and weak plotting prevent it from shining, making it a middling entry in the otherwise stellar early Bond canon. See more nick s Oct 28 It was muddling along okay until the lunar landing joke. That just killed any gravity the movie had. See more Joshua H @JoshuaHawes Oct 27 Yeah it's alright I guess, a bit disappointing tbh especially considering that I really liked the pervious film it felt like a breath of fresh air just when we needed whereas this film like just the same old. Obviously Sean Connery is great but it felt like after his pervious film he had done everything thing he could with the role and this movie kinda proved it. I would have probably perffered George Lazenby come back for at least one more movie (the frist like 10 minutes would have been way more satisfying had and made more sense if it was George Lazenby) and I would loved it if they tackled the end of the pervious movie and how it impacted Bond as a character. Yeah it just felt like a blast from the past way too soon when we just wanted something new with the character and I didn't think the Villain felt like a completely different person from pervious film. But it was I guess ut was enjoyable enough. I'm just looking forward to seeing something new with the franchise in the next film. See more Aug 2 Solid Bond flick often overlooked. Campy and cheap at times, but the storytelling element is there. See more Read all reviews
