Critics Consensus

Its action may be bit too over-the-top for some, but Die Another Day is lavishly crafted and succeeds in evoking classic Bond themes from the franchise's earlier installments.

Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com It's definitely [Pierce] Brosnan's worst Bond film. Rated: D+ Apr 3, 2020 Full Review Namrata Joshi Outlook The film is a frantic roller-coaster ride from which you emerge exhausted, with a massive blur in the head. Rated: 2/4 Jan 3, 2019 Full Review Peter Rainer New York Magazine/Vulture It's the same old Bond. Nov 2, 2015 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand The over-reliance on epic CGI effects results in a few chinks in the spectacle (the tidal wave looks like a video game effect), but the thrill-topping succession of death-defying disasters and unbelievable battles... just don’t stop coming. May 4, 2024 Full Review Kent M. Wilhelm Tilt Magazine Producing this milestone film is an unenviable task of immense responsibility. Unfortunately, the result is a clumsy homage –an attempt to concoct a grand confection with ingredients of varied quality and a baker that wasn’t up to the task. Jul 21, 2023 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies It really doesn't matter how Lee Tamahori directed the film or what Neal Purvis and Robert Wade did with their script  because Die Another Day was screwed from the moment that The Bourne Identity opened in theaters. Frank Ingenius throughout. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/26/22 Full Review Oliver J Critics Consensus: “Overstuffed and over-the-top, Die Another Day delivers some flashy fun but ultimately drowns in excess, trading Bond’s signature sophistication for CGI chaos and campy spectacle.” Pierce Brosnan’s fourth and final outing as 007 starts with a bang—a gritty capture and brutal imprisonment that promises a darker, more personal Bond story. Unfortunately, that promising setup soon gives way to invisible cars, laser satellites, and a tidal wave of digital effects that push the series’ suspension of disbelief past its breaking point. Brosnan remains a steady hand, exuding effortless cool even as the film spirals into absurdity. Halle Berry’s Jinx brings charisma and physicality to her role, though the script gives her little to work with beyond one-liners and stylized stunts. Toby Stephens’ Gustav Graves is a serviceable villain, but his outlandish plot and cartoonish delivery make him feel more parody than menace. Director Lee Tamahori clearly aims for bombastic spectacle—and in that respect, he succeeds. From the hovercraft chase in North Korea to the icy duels in Iceland, Die Another Day is nothing if not ambitious. Yet beneath the glossy surface lies a film unsure of its identity—caught between honoring Bond’s legacy and chasing the excesses of early-2000s blockbuster trends. Verdict: A visually loud and tonally uneven farewell for Brosnan’s Bond. Die Another Day offers moments of excitement but loses sight of what makes 007 truly timeless: style, wit, and restraint. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/26/25 Full Review Sebastian L The first half of DAD is arguably the best runtime of Bond since Golden Eye. A well-written, perfectly produced spy intrigue of classic measure. Then it all comes tumbling down with the introduction of a ludicrous villain with the most ridiculous doomsday device set in the most laughable location. Brosnan deserved to end his stint on a better note. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/16/25 Full Review Aaron A. My favorite part is where Mays tries to do a lap dance on Amin Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/14/25 Full Review thiago s Filme mais ou menos, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são mais ou menos, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/04/25 Full Review Laurie S The team that wrote this, judging by the silly innuendos and childish jokes, must have been teenagers.
