Audience Member Strained comedy, hopelessly dated with two stars that don't have any chemistry together. The story is rather absurd and just doesn't work. I suppose at the time the subject matter was a bit daring, but very tame today. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I was in my teens when I watched this movie. I was surprised that raised in a conservative christian environment, I did not "shun" this movie and change the channel. I wonder now if modern liberals would consider this anathema. I'm not going to ruin the ending for anyone. I guess it's up to the viewer to decide for themself. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Variety Staff Variety Save for this severe script problem, director and performers have done admirable work. Apr 27, 2020 Full Review Susan Hill Time Out A sort of Touch of Class screwball comedy which has been uneasily welded to a homosexual subject. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Janet Maslin New York Times The movie's use of their homosexuality is indeed exploitative, insensitive, and offensive in a variety of ways. Even worse, it is unconvincing. May 9, 2005 Full Review David Dugas United Press International This brisk, off-center comedy could be the sleeper of the year. Aug 2, 2022 Full Review John Cummings Gay Community News (Boston) A Different Story will not be a “significant” film. Aside from its offending nature, it is boring, and poorly done. Jul 13, 2022 Full Review Larry Vitacco Philadelphia Gay News Luckily, the overall quality, sincerity, fresh humor, and truth smooth the rough spots, making A Different Story worth seeing because it tries hard and (almost) makes it.
