Kambole Campbell IGN Movies Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna realizes the full potential of its cast and the power of a definitive ending, driven by an inventive visual sensibility, exciting set-pieces, and heart-wrenching emotional stakes. Rated: 9/10 Sep 28, 2020 Full Review Yago García Cinemanía (Spain) A good twilight thriller... in which the titular monsters stand out, as endearing and tragic as stuffed animals rescued from the bottom of a drawer. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4/5 Mar 29, 2021 Full Review Courtney Lanning Arkansas Democrat-Gazette No matter what the Digimon writers come up with in the future, Last Evolution Kizuna really feels like a satisfying goodbye. The animation is stellar, the music is good, and the story is solid. Oct 9, 2020 Full Review Hannah Collins CBR Though it doesn't have the distinctive hallmarks of the esteemed Director Mamoru Hosoda, who co-helmed the first movie (his directorial debut, no less), Last Evolution is still handsomely put-together under Director Tomohisa Taguchi's lead. Martin F It's not only a fitted conclusion for Digimon Adventure but an impressive quality movie for a series that never really aimed for high standard. The actions and the motivation speeches expected have been pushed aside to go deep into the characters now entering their adult life. They are now looking for jobs and balancing their new responsibilities. The message is not subtle here, it is about growing out of the magic time that was our childhood, it's sad, hard to do but necessary as humans. The Digimons themselves are secondary here, they barely speak or even evolve, which can be a deception for viewers looking for a more typical Digimon films. They look vulnerable, like precious teddy bears instead of the killing machine that we are used to. The plot is interesting and thought-provoking despite being sometimes a little too on the nose especially when it tries to be emotional. The final scene is more quiet giving the viewers time to reflect and to say goodbye to an iconic series. Great story, characters were written well, and the ending made me cry.
