Amid the reels of tripe churned out by Bollywood every week, Dil Se... is a noble attempt. But coming from Mani, that's simply not good enough. Go to Full Review

Though it falls short of matching Bombay's grip and emotional immediacy, Dil Se.. is visually stunning, a high-impact film which stretches the limits of commercial Hindi cinema. Go to Full Review

Diana Susanti A Nov 15 Basically it's a grounded story of Layla & Majnun, very sufi underneath those chaotics plot and dialogue. Also, as part of liberation movement myself, I got the sentiment and nuance. See more manish r Jul 15 As a film student who has explored the breadth of world cinema, from Bergman to Kurosawa to Mani Ratnam himself, I can say this with certainty: Dil Se is not just a movie—it’s cinema in its truest, most hauntingly poetic form. Every frame of Dil Se is a painting, layered with colors of emotions . It doesn’t serve comfort food storytelling. It demands attention. It draws you in with its visual tension, soundscapes, and performances that blur the line between desire and destruction. Rarely does a film possess that magical quality of rewatchability without fatigue. Dil Se does. Every viewing deepens the impact. To those so-called critics who dismiss this film as indulgent or flawed—frankly, I find their judgment lazy and guided more by herd mentality than honest cinema-watching. They seem to wait for a foreign validation—an Oscar nod or a festival buzz—before daring to form an opinion. That’s not criticism, that’s copy-paste culture. True cinema doesn’t beg for approval; it stands on its own. Dil Se stands tall. This is Mani Ratnam and A.R. Rahman at their most visceral, Shah Rukh Khan at his most vulnerable, and Santosh Sivan’s cinematography at its most soulful. It’s a film that bleeds, aches, and burns with intensity—one that refuses to fade from memory. Dil Se is not for the casual viewer. It’s for the cinephile. It’s for the seeker. And it’s an eternal reminder that when Indian cinema dares to dream, it creates art like this See more 21 - Priyan B Apr 5 Bit predictable and draggy but worth a watch. See more Suprateek A 09/01/2023 This film made me feel like a stuffed burrito and I feel delusional. Dil Se can be described as an over ambitious project of Mani Ratnam. My mom told me that one of the reviews said that too many cooks ruined this film which was so true. This film tried to do so many things at once that it fails to prove its main point. I didn't know if it was supposed to be a love story or a political take or whatever. Due to the above mentioned point the screenplay became a train wreck. In my opinion they should've told the entire story from Manisha Koirala's POV which would've made it ten times better. I just found the film very uncomfortable and I couldn't stand Shah Rukh's and Manisha's love track which was supposed to be the main plot. Preity Zinta was the saviour and I found her track better honestly, to put it in better words, it was better told. The best aspect of this film was its songs which were just too iconic, I wish the film was as good as the songs. To conclude I just have no words to describe this film and I feel very dizzy after watching it. See more Read all reviews
