Bisquiteen T 1d So, a lot of the social issues here regarding gender, race, power dynamics in general are very "SOC 101." However, that's not necessarily a bad thing. A whole lotta people never took SOC 101, so as a crash course, it actually does pack quite a bit into a short runtime. For people who actually study these topics, either from interest or from being part of a marginalized group, it's going to feel a bit shallow. Still, I think it's great that there's a movie out there with pretty good dialogue, directing, and acting that is tackling hierarchies and intersectionality in a very accessible way. If I were still teaching SOC 101, I might show the class this movie to start a conversation when we were getting into the stratification part of the curriculum. The movie does not really address issues of class or sexuality, but, even writing this, I'm wondering, why should it? It's, again, really elementary, and I mean that positively, that people who don't think about these things maybe just might. See more Read all reviews
