James C First off, if you don't like indie films then Dirty Beautiful is not for you. You need not read any further.  But... If you like indie dramas that portray the harsh reality of life then give Dirty Beautiful a try. It portrays a trainwreck of a relationship that you can't help but watch!  Bad decision after bad decision David, played by Ricky Mabe, and Kat, played by Jordan Monaghan, move through life together in the most bizarre of circumstances.  I found myself both rooting for them to stick it out and run for the hills throughout this 90 minute drama. I applaud the cast for their performances that felt extremely grounded and believable. I really enjoyed the first 10 minutes of the film, and based off that I thought it was going to be far more light-hearted than it was. When the characters broke the fourth wall and spoke directly to us the audience, I found it a much needed comedic break from the stressful relationship.  I do wish there was more of that humor sprinkled throughout. Overall a well done indie film! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/24/24 Full Review J K "Dirty Beautiful" offers a refreshing take on the romantic comedy genre, blending humor with raw authenticity. The film's portrayal of opposites attracting is both funny and genuine, as it explores the clash between order and chaos in relationships. With unexpected twists and relatable characters, this movie delivers laughs while also providing a thoughtful look at the messy reality of human connections. If you're looking for a good rom-com, give this one a try! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/24/24 Full Review kpictures B Dirty Beautiful is an offbeat comedy/romance about a writer named David, played by Ricky Mabe, who meets a wild girl named Kat, played by Jordan Monaghan, at a traffic light when she jumps into his car after a fight with her boyfriend. David doesn’t know what to do but agrees to bring her back to his apartment. Both Ricky and Jordan did a really good job. It’s a really funny film, and I liked how it takes what we think is going to happen next and pivots in an unpredictable way. It’s also well produced and shot. Writer and director Tim Bartell did a really good job making us care about the characters and their development toward each other, and we end up rooting for them despite their flaws. There are some really funny moments, and I think the back and forth between David and Kat is a lot of fun to watch. I like how both characters play off each other, drawing out the best in one another in a believable way. What makes Dirty Beautiful work is the excellent understanding of when to make us laugh and when to make us care about the imperfect characters whose flaws are true to who they are. The film is light but poignant, which is not easy to achieve and one of the main reasons why I enjoyed it so much. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/25/24 Full Review Alec C A pre-2020s L.A. romance, replete with coarse language, characters, traffic, lots of drinking and eternal sunshine. It’s a dysfunctional love story that’s more complicated than your standard movie escapism. There’s a symbiosis these characters long for, but it may be out of reach. The lead actors are both relatable and richly flawed. It has a nice sun-drenched California look. Worth a watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/29/24 Full Review Melly B Great find on Amazon. A perfect example of how easily life can spiral out of control and what decisions are made after. Overall a great recommendation. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/24/24 Full Review Ethan M "Dirty Beautiful" is a captivating rom-com that delves into the complexities of love with a refreshing edge. From its opening scenes, it's evident that this isn't your typical romance; it's raw, messy, and at times, heartbreakingly real. What sets this film apart is its fearless exploration of the darker aspects of love. It doesn't shy away from portraying the messiness and complications that often accompany romantic relationships. Instead, it embraces them, reminding us that love isn't always neat and tidy, but it's still an essential part of life. The characters in "Dirty Beautiful" are wonderfully flawed and relatable. As they navigate their own brokenness, they crash into each other in unexpected ways, leading to an unconventional yet deeply meaningful romance. What's refreshing is the authenticity of their interactions; they ask the questions we all want to ask and face the uncertainties of love head-on. One of the film's greatest strengths is its unpredictability. Just when you think you have it all figured out, it throws a curveball that keeps you on the edge of your seat. This element of surprise adds a layer of realism to the story, making it feel all the more poignant and relatable. Despite its darker moments, "Dirty Beautiful" is also surprisingly funny and heartwarming. It strikes a perfect balance between drama and humor, keeping the audience engaged from start to finish. And while the journey may not always lead to a traditional happily-ever-after, it reminds us that love is about compromise and finding beauty in imperfection. In a world saturated with cookie-cutter romances, "Dirty Beautiful" stands out as a refreshing and thought-provoking take on love. It's a film that deserves to be seen, celebrated, and cherished for its bold storytelling and genuine emotion. So do yourself a favor and give it a watch—you won't regret it.
