The film’s a marvel—the editing tight and crisp yet never unnecessarily flashy, the special effects well done but not overdone, and the cinematography from Spielberg reg Janusz Kaminski playing to the unsettled times in which they are set.

The characters felt too one-dimensional most of the time to invest in, the action was passable but never breathtaking, and the failure to make more hay out of its core appeal as a story, the discovery of alien life, was utterly confounding.

Disclosure Day is everything you want - and can expect - from a Steven Spielberg film involving aliens. It’s thrilling, intriguing and visually exciting but also full of empathy and poses important questions about the human condition.
