With four divorces under her belt, Chicago resident Diane Carter (Kay Francis) decides to travel back to her hometown in Illinois. There she is reunited with her old boyfriend, Bob Phillips (Bruce Cabot), who is now married with two sons. Diane hires Bob as her real estate agent, secretly plotting to win him back. As Bob gradually falls into Diane's arms, his wife, Martha (Helen Mack), decides to get a divorce. Bob loses touch with his family and slips deeper into Diane's web of depravity.
