Peter Howell Toronto Star Time for a brainy look at brain-eating zombies, and this one delivers like molars to skull. Rated: 3/4 Jul 10, 2014 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh While it might not be entirely enlightening, it brings together some of the most delightful storytellers in the genre to serve as a good primer for anyone at all interested in the living undead. Rated: 4/5 Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Allen Almachar The MacGuffin Although what we're given isn't anything new, and despite fizzling to a stop instead of going out with a bang, Doc of the Dead is still a fun trip down this particular road. Rated: B Jul 21, 2020 Full Review C.J. Prince Way Too Indie It's lighthearted, breezy and overall a fun piece of pop trivia. Jun 21, 2019 Full Review Heather Wixson Daily Dead Doc of the Dead certainly has a lot on its undead-loving mind, it just never figures out what exactly it's trying to say. Rated: 3/5 Jan 8, 2016 Full Review Felix Vasquez Jr. Cinema Crazed A fantastic love letter and insightful examination of the zombie take over in society and pop culture... Audience Member Moderately interesting, but spends a lot of its second half dwelling on irrelevant "what-ifs". Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Although it covers familiar ground, it's still nice to see the famous faces waxing lyrical about a genre they obviously love, even though the 'comedy' segments are corny and the real life commercial business of zombie body gun targets are a little unnerving Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member A little documentary about zombies; their beginnings, their movies, their culture, etc. Not very exciting though, and I don't feel like I learned a lot of new information. Watch this if you are interested in zombies or are a fan. Oh hi Plinkett! 6.5/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member cool.... but i missed the point Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member The Epix documentary Doc of the Dead provides a comprehensive look at the zombie infection that has taken hold in pop culture. The film begins with an overview of the zombie's evolution throughout cinema and how they became the flesh eating monsters that we know today. It also looks at some of the cultural impacts that the undead have had in comics, literature, and entertainment attractions. Featuring hosts of filmmakers and various experts discussing the influences that have contributed to the zombie phenomenon, a variety of opinions are presented. Yet as interesting as some of these discussions are, it's kind of a scattershot of disconnected topics. Additionally, the tone is largely intent on fan service rather than objective analysis. Though Doc of the Dead is a little over-congested and haphazard, it's also a fun look at one of the more fascinating subgenres of horror. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Meh. How do you make a "definitive zombie culture documentary" and not mention Fulci, Japanese Zombie films or really anything that is non-English? A zombie doc has to show Zombie vs Shark. But some of the interviews are fun. If you are a zombie movie fan, it is doubtful you will learn anything new. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
